Bien Nacido Vineyard

This is our first vintage of the historic Bien Nacido Vineyards in Santa Maria Valley AVA and it is as great as we anticipated! In 2010, Flying Goat Cellars began sourcing grapes from old vines at Bien Nacido Vineyard Block N. We are thrilled to source Martini clone from the original 1973 plantings that came from stock grown by the University of California, Davis, and grow on their own rootstock. The vineyard has 12×7 spacing and vertical shoot positioning (VSP) trellis system. Soil type is Elder loam and Elder shaly loam on a 9-15% slope, allowing for great drainage. The Miller family own and farm this vineyard, along with Solomon Hills.

Tasting Notes

Rustic is the first thing that comes to mind with this wine. Notice the dark rich color, smell the age of the vines and taste the layers of full bodied texture. Notes of black plum evolve into white pepper on the finish. Further hints of black cherry and ripe plums are revealed on the palate as the wine opens up. This comfort wine ventures beyond fruit with depth and complexity, and subtle tannins that coat your tongue. Recommended pairing with lamb, pork tritip, lean cuts of beef, such as New York strip or filet mignon. Deep dark chocolate offers the ultimate decadence.
