Situated near Avila Beach in the Avila Valley, San Luis Obispo County, the Salisbury Vineyard is located two miles from the Pacific Ocean. A sloping block with a southwest face, the soils are well drained clay loam. Perfect for Pinot Noir, the vineyard is enveloped in maritime fog until mid-morning and then enjoys long days of sun in the mid 70s, until the sun sets and the fog rolls back in. The vines produce balanced grapes that express this unique sense of place. Not only do the breezes that continually flow off the Pacific Ocean across the vineyard keep temperatures cool during the growing season, but the ocean temperatures themselves moderate the climate. Temperatures remain somewhat constant throughout the growing season – very cool.

Tasting Notes
Norm says, “2010 was a very good harvest!” Salisbury Vineyard continues to mature and offer new expressions. This is not a typical Salisbury wine as it does not show any spice. It is medium garnet in color, reminiscent of a deep sunset sky on fire. There is voluptuous fruit forward blackberry on the nose and black plums on the palate. Full bodied, ripe fruit offers lingering taste with smokiness and nice body on the mid-palate. Pair with grilled tri-tip, ribs or artichokes and aioli.
