“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.”
Leonardo da Vinci

Join Joe White and friends to indulge this noblest pleasure in understanding the nature and value of pleasure. Our dialogue will take us from Epicurus (340- 270 B.C.), founder of Hedonism, to the modern Hedonic Calculus, as first articulated by Jeremy Bentham (1748 -1832 A.D.).

“Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereigns, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do.”                 Jeremy Bentham

Do you agree or disagree? Let’s talk. See you Sept. 21!

Joe White, Philosopher, is former Philosophy Department Chair and Professor Emeritus Santa Barbara City College. “Most people pursue pleasure with such breathless haste that they hurry past it.”
Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) Danish philosopher and writer.
